Bastioned Knossos
Bastioned Knossos (#AC1590) is a true magenta with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (311°, 78%, 38%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary green. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Italian bastionato, fortified-with-bastions — past-participle of bastion, derived from bastia (fortified-tower). As a color modifier, bastioned implies a saturated-and-fortified-and-projecting quality, the deep-rich color of Vauban-period military-fortress star-fort projecting-bastion stone-architecture. Sits at the bold-and-fortified end of the grid, parallel to fortified and buttressed.
Minoan Cretan palace-complex (occupied c. 1900–1370 BCE) — the legendary court of King Minos and a major Bronze-Age Tyrian purple production center supplying the Aegean trade network. Knossos color refers to a Knossos-period Minoan purpura-dyed fresco border: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the matte finish of multi-bath Hexaplex trunculus shellfish dye on lime-plaster wall painting.
