Spangled Iceland
Spangled Iceland (#ABFA98) is a soft green with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Middle Dutch spange, clasp / metal-disc — past-participle of spangle. As a color modifier, spangled implies a saturated-and-multi-point-reflective quality, the bright color of American-flag-stars and sequined-fabric metallic-disc-and-jewel-decoration. Sits at the bright-and-reflective end of the grid, parallel to glittering and sequined in usage.
The North Atlantic island — and the saturated green of Icelandic mossy lava fields and the þúfur (hummocky) tussocks of Icelandic farmland. Iceland refers to an Icelandic moss-covered lava field: a saturated, slightly cool deep yellow-green with the slightly velvet matte finish of dense mossy undergrowth.
