Etched Patina
Etched Patina (#ABEAD1) is a soft teal with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (156°, 60%, 79%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary magenta. German ätzen, to etch — past-participle of etch. As a color modifier, etched implies a clear-and-precisely-incised quality, the crisp color of Rembrandt-and-Dürer hand-pulled etching-print fine-line incised-image. The thin corrosion layer that develops on copper, bronze, and other metals over time — sometimes copper carbonate (verdigris), sometimes copper sulfate, depending on environment. The color refers to mature exposed-bronze patina on a public statue: a soft, slightly muted blue-green with the powdery finish of mineral oxide.
