Confident Bixbite
Confident Bixbite (#AB0366) is a deep magenta with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (325°, 97%, 34%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary teal. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
A late-Latin participle, confidens, trusting — borrowed into English in the sixteenth century. As a color modifier, confident implies saturation combined with poise: a confident red doesn't try too hard, just sits at the level of its hue without overreaching. Sits in the bold-bucket center near bold and resolute.
An extremely rare red variety of beryl — found principally in the Wah Wah Mountains of Utah and the Thomas Range. Often called red emerald in the trade. The color refers to a faceted bixbite: a saturated, slightly cool deep red with the gem's signature internal life. Cooler than ruby, deeper than spinel.
