Printed Smithsonite
Printed Smithsonite (#A9F1D5) is a soft teal with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Latin premere, to press — past-participle of print. As a color modifier, printed implies a clear-and-impressed-and-multiplied quality, the crisp color of Marimekko-and-Liberty-of-London hand-or-machine-printed textile-and-paper pattern-design. A zinc carbonate mineral — named for English chemist James Smithson (founder of the Smithsonian Institution). The blue-green variety is mined principally in New Mexico's Magdalena Mountains. The color refers to a polished blue-green smithsonite cabochon: a soft, slightly cool deep blue-green with the satin finish of botryoidal zinc-carbonate mineral.
