Diaphanous Hokkaido (#A8A7C5) is a soft blue with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (242°, 21%, 71%) places it in the muted band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. Etymology
From the Greek diaphanēs, transparent — used as a color modifier since the seventeenth century for hues with the optical translucency of fine fabric. Diaphanous white, diaphanous pink: very low saturation combined with the optical impression of light passing through. Sits at the pale-bucket alongside sheer.
Japan's northernmost island, home to the Furano lavender fields cultivated since 1948 by Tomita Farm — a Japanese imitation of Provençal lavender agriculture, now a national tourist landmark. Hokkaido color refers to a Furano lavender field at peak bloom: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-violet with the matte finish of Lavandula angustifolia essential-oil-rich bracts. Slightly cooler than Provençal lavanda.
