Honest Aniline
Honest Aniline (#A6B0FD) is a soft blue with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (233°, 96%, 82%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Latin honestus, honorable — used as a color modifier since the seventeenth century for hues that read as straightforward and unembellished, the working browns and grays of vernacular architecture rather than the polished shades of court fashion. Synthetic-organic dye class first synthesized in 1856 by William Henry Perkin from coal-tar derivatives — named after the Portuguese anil (indigo) since Perkin's first mauveine was a synthetic stand-in for natural indigo's overdyed violets. Aniline color refers to a freshly aniline-mauveine-dyed Victorian silk: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-violet with the silky luster of the first-ever industrial synthetic dye on Lyon silk.
