As a color modifier, levitated implies a pale-and-suspended-and-lifted quality where the hue carries the visual register of magic-trick-and-stage-illusion lifted-and-suspended-state spatial-condition. The Tokugawa shogunate's capital (1603–1867), now Tokyo — and the period when aizome indigo dyeing democratized to commoners under sumptuary laws restricting brighter colors to the daimyo class. Edo color refers to an Edo-komon indigo-dyed cotton: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-violet with the matte finish of fermentation-vat aizome dye on commoner cotton.
