Ashen Vivianite
Ashen Vivianite (#A5CDDC) is a soft cyan with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (196°, 44%, 75%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. Etymology
Old English æsce, ash — adjectival suffix -en. As a color modifier, ashen implies a pale-and-grayed-and-drained quality, the pale color of Provençal-domestic-hearth fully-burnt-and-cooled wood-ash residue surface. Sits at the pale-and-drained end of the grid, parallel to wan and pallid in usage.
A hydrated iron phosphate mineral — colorless when freshly exposed, oxidizing to deep blue-green within hours of air exposure. Mined principally in Cornwall and California. The color refers to a fully-oxidized vivianite specimen: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-green with the slight metallic luster of phosphate mineral.
