Antiseptic Pansy
Antiseptic Pansy (#A5ADED) is a soft blue with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (233°, 67%, 79%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary amber. Etymology
Greek anti- (against) plus sēptikós (putrefying) — adjectival suffix -ic. As a color modifier, antiseptic implies a clear-and-disinfected-and-clinical quality, the crisp color of medical-laboratory and operating-theater hand-scrub-and-sanitizer surfaces. Sits at the crisp-and-clean end of the grid, parallel to sterile and sanitary in usage.
Viola × wittrockiana, the cultivated garden pansy bred in the nineteenth century from wild Viola tricolor. The color refers to the deep purple-blue field of a Pansy Imperial hybrid: a saturated, slightly violet-shifted deep blue with the velvet finish of a five-petaled face. Cooler than amethyst, warmer than indigo, with the cottage-garden weight of a flower that overwinters in mild climates and blooms when nothing else does.
