Old English spearca, spark — present-participle of spark. As a color modifier, sparking implies a saturated-and-electrical-emission quality, the bright color of welding-arc-and-Tesla-coil high-voltage spark-discharge emission. Bukhara color refers to the deep-blue tilework of Bukhara's 15th-century Po-i-Kalyan madrasa: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-violet with the glossy finish of cobalt-and-indigo-glazed Timurid ceramic. Slightly cooler than Samarkand.
