Sifted Camas

#9eafc8
Notes

Sifted Camas (#9EAFC8) is a true azure with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (216°, 28%, 70%) places it in the muted band at a mid lightness. It works across type, buttons, and borders, saturated enough to feel deliberate but balanced enough to not fight the rest of the palette. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary amber. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.

Etymology

Sifted
adjective

Old English siftan, to sift — past-participle of sift. As a color modifier, sifted implies a pale-and-fine-particle-and-uniformly-distributed quality, the pale color of baker's sifted-and-fine-flour finely-distributed-and-uniform-deposit surface-finish. Sits at the pale-and-soft end of the grid, parallel to dusted and sprinkled in usage.

Camas
noun

The genus Camassiacamas lily, North American native bulbs whose deep-blue flower spikes were a staple food source for Pacific Northwest Indigenous peoples (the bulbs are cooked in pit ovens). The color refers to a C. quamash meadow at peak bloom: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue with the satin finish of six-petaled lily-form flower.
