Greek sýlphē, air-spirit — adjectival suffix -ine, derived from sylph (an air-elemental in alchemical-cosmology). A calcium sulfate mineral — the anhydrous form of gypsum — sometimes occurring in saturated deep-blue varieties known as Angelite or Blue Anhydrite. Mined principally in Peru. The color refers to a polished blue anhydrite cabochon: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue with the matte finish of opaque sulfate mineral.
