Sylphine Auvergne (#9AAC90) is a true lime with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Etymology
Greek sýlphē, air-spirit — adjectival suffix -ine, derived from sylph (an air-elemental in alchemical-cosmology). As a color modifier, sylphine implies a pale-and-airy-and-spirit-thin quality, the pale color of Pre-Raphaelite-and-Symbolist-painting air-spirit-and-ethereal-figure soft-light-and-airy iconography. Sits at the pale-and-ethereal end of the grid, parallel to fairylike and elfin in usage.
The volcanic central French region — and the deep green of Auvergne plateau pasture, Salers cattle grazing land, and the green moss of volcanic-rock walls. Auvergne refers to an Auvergne montagne in early summer: a saturated, slightly muted deep yellow-green with the matte finish of volcanic-soil grass.
