Mapped Amazonite
Mapped Amazonite (#99EABB) is a soft teal with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (145°, 66%, 76%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. Latin mappa, cloth / napkin — past-participle of map. As a color modifier, mapped implies a clear-and-cartographic-and-surveyed quality, the crisp color of Ordnance-Survey-and-USGS scientific-and-cadastral cartographic-and-topographic mapping-and-projection. Sits at the crisp-and-mapped end of the grid, parallel to plotted and surveyed in usage.
A blue-green variety of microcline feldspar — colored by trace lead and water in its crystal structure. Mined since ancient times in the Russian Urals and now in Colorado, Madagascar, and Brazil. The color refers to a polished amazonite cabochon: a soft, slightly muted blue-green with the cloudy translucency of feldspar. Cooler than jade, warmer than cerulean, with the mineral-trade specificity of a stone named for the Amazon basin where it doesn't actually occur.
