Earnest Tsutsuji
Earnest Tsutsuji (#990F7F) is a deep magenta with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (311°, 82%, 33%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Old English eornost, seriousness, zeal. Used as a color modifier since the nineteenth century for hues that read as committed but unshowy — the working blues of denim, the deep greens of Quaker meetinghouses. Kirishima. Tsutsuji color refers to a fully bloomed kirishima-tsutsuji terminal truss in a Kyoto temple garden: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the velvet finish of fresh five-petaled bell-flowers in dense terminal clusters.
