Greek néon, new — element-name (atomic-number 10), discovered by William Ramsay in 1898. Karakoram color refers to an unworked Sar-e-Sang lapis-lazuli boulder freshly extracted from the Karakoram foothills: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-violet with the matte finish of pyrite-flecked lazurite ore on rough fracture surface.
