Etymology
The progressive participle of dazzle, to overwhelm with brightness — used as a color word since the seventeenth century for hues that read as intense enough to be momentarily blinding. Elettaria cardamomum, the South Asian and East African spice whose green pods are essential to Indian chai, Scandinavian kardemumma baking, and Arab coffee. The color refers to fresh green cardamom pods: a saturated, slightly cool yellow-green with the matte finish of dry seed pods. Cooler than fennel.
