Pressed Lazurite
Pressed Lazurite (#95A8FB) is a soft blue with a pastel character. It reads calm and airy, with enough chroma to feel intentional rather than washed out. Its HSL profile (229°, 93%, 78%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary amber. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Latin pressāre, to press — past-participle of press. As a color modifier, pressed implies a clear-and-smoothed-and-flattened quality, the crisp color of Mid-Century-Modern freshly-pressed-shirt-and-trouser ironed-textile finish. Sits at the crisp-and-finished end of the grid, parallel to ironed and starched in usage.
The principal mineral of lapis lazuli — a sodium-aluminum sulfate-silicate from the Sar-e-Sang mines in Badakhshan province of northeastern Afghanistan, the Renaissance source for ultramarine pigment. Lazurite color refers to a freshly cut Sar-e-Sang lapis face showing the central lazurite nucleus: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-violet with the matte finish of pyrite-flecked lazurite ore.
