Open Phlox
Open Phlox (#949CE7) is a soft blue with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (234°, 63%, 74%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Etymology
Old English open, unobstructed — used as a color modifier since the eighteenth century for hues that read as airy or uncrowded. The color refers to a fresh blue-violet phlox cluster: a saturated, slightly violet-shifted blue-purple with the matte finish of densely packed five-petaled flowers. Cooler than wisteria, warmer than veronica.
