Prismatic Charoite
Prismatic Charoite (#9290EF) is a soft blue with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (241°, 75%, 75%) places it in the balanced band at a light lightness. It works as a background wash, large-area fill, or soft illustration tone. Add a darker ink of the same hue when you need type over it. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary yellow. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Greek prísma, prism — adjectival suffix -ic. As a color modifier, prismatic implies a saturated-and-multi-spectrum-decomposed quality, the bright color of crystal-prism and cut-glass-chandelier light-refraction-spectrum decomposition. Sits at the bright-and-shifting end of the grid, parallel to iridescent and spectral in usage.
Russian violet-banded mineral mined exclusively along the Chara River in Yakutia, eastern Siberia, since the 1940s. Charoite color refers to a polished Yakutian charoite cabochon: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-violet with the silky chatoyant finish of fibrous strontium-potassium-calcium silicate. The only deep-violet mineral mined commercially in Russia, valued for its complex banded patterning.
