Garish Tabebuia (#90AA04) is a deep yellow with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (69°, 95%, 34%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Middle English garen, to stare — adjectival suffix -ish. As a color modifier, garish implies a saturated-and-eye-stunning-and-overdone quality, the bright color of Las-Vegas-and-Coney-Island over-the-top neon-marquee display. Sits at the bright-and-flamboyant end of the grid, parallel to gaudy and lurid in usage.
The genus Tabebuia (now reclassified as Handroanthus) — South American flowering trees whose pendulous racemes of yellow trumpet-flowers cover the canopy in early spring. The color refers to a T. chrysantha (national tree of Venezuela) in bloom: a saturated, slightly red yellow with the satin finish of large trumpet-shaped flowers.
