Reposeful Yamabuki
Reposeful Yamabuki (#8A350E) is a deep orange with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (19°, 82%, 30%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Latin repōnere, to put back — adjectival suffix -ful. As a color modifier, reposeful implies a clear-and-restful-and-still quality, the calm color of pre-modern monastic cloister-and-refectory meditative-and-silent interior architecture. Kerria japonica, the Japanese rose-family shrub whose bright yellow-orange flowers cover steep hillsides in late spring. Yamabuki-iro (mountain-rose color) gave Japanese its name for a saturated yellow-orange hue used in court robes and woodblock prints. The color refers to a fully open kerria flower: a saturated, slightly red-shifted yellow-orange with the satin finish of small five-petaled bloom. Warmer than canary, lighter than marigold.
