Lionhearted Brazilin (#87076E) is a deep magenta with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (312°, 90%, 28%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Old English lēona-heorte, lion's-heart — referring to Richard I Lionheart (1157–1199). As a color modifier, lionhearted implies a saturated-and-courageous-and-royal quality, the deep-rich color of Crusader-period English Plantagenet-royalty armorial bearings. Sits at the bold-and-chivalrous end of the grid, parallel to valiant and heroic.
Caesalpinia brasiliensis — a Brazilian legume tree whose heartwood was the colonial-era principal source of brazilin dye, harvested at industrial scale from the Mata Atlântica and giving the country Brazil its English name. Brazilin color refers to a freshly brazilin-mordant-dyed wool: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the matte finish of multi-bath plant-and-mordant-dyed woolen fiber. Warmer than campeche (logwood).
