Punchy Hewn magenta (#870193) is a deep violet with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. A modern adjectival form of punch, to strike sharply. Used as a color word since the early twentieth century for hues that read as highly contrasting and visually loud. A synthetic aniline dye (fuchsine) introduced in 1859 and renamed in 1860 to commemorate the Franco-Sardinian victory over Austria at the Battle of Magenta in northern Italy. The dye produced the first vivid pink-purple textile color cheaply available to mass markets. The color refers to a freshly magenta-dyed silk: a saturated, slightly cool deep pink-purple with the satiny finish of synthetic-dyed natural fiber. Cooler than fuchsia, warmer than violet.
