Latin lūminōsus, full of light — adjectival suffix -ous, derived from lūmen (light). Japanese for sprouting yellow — the yellow-green of Carex sedge sprouts and rice seedlings. The color refers to fresh moegi sprouts in a paddy: a saturated, slightly yellow yellow-green with the matte finish of small fresh leaves.
