Composed Maize
Composed Maize (#829A0D) is a deep yellow with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (70°, 84%, 33%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary indigo. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
The past participle of compose, to arrange together — used as a color modifier for hues that read as deliberate and balanced. Zea mays, the New World grass domesticated in the Balsas River valley of Mexico nine thousand years ago — now the largest cereal crop on Earth by yield. The wider Spanish maíz keeps the original Taíno word; English borrowed it before adopting corn in the United States.
