Stalwart Sugilite (#820585) is a deep violet with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (299°, 93%, 27%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Old English stǣl-wyrðe, stable-and-worthy. As a color modifier, stalwart implies a saturated-and-loyal-and-firm quality where the hue carries the dependable-and-trustworthy visual presence of a Knight-Templar guard. Sits at the bold-and-firm end of the grid, parallel to steadfast and firm in usage.
A manganese-bearing cyclosilicate gem first described in 1944, with major sources in South Africa's Wessels Mine. The color refers to a polished sugilite cabochon: a saturated, slightly red-shifted deep purple with the matte finish of opaque mineral. Cooler than amethyst, warmer than tanzanite, with the gem-trade rarity of a stone produced commercially from one principal mine and priced accordingly.
