Earnest Erythrite
Earnest Erythrite (#801C98) is a true violet with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (288°, 69%, 35%) places it in the balanced band at a mid lightness. It works across type, buttons, and borders, saturated enough to feel deliberate but balanced enough to not fight the rest of the palette. Etymology
Old English eornost, seriousness, zeal. Used as a color modifier since the nineteenth century for hues that read as committed but unshowy — the working blues of denim, the deep greens of Quaker meetinghouses. Sits in the bold-and-quiet corner of the grid, slightly less luminous than resolute and slightly less institutional than imperial.
Cobalt bloom, a hydrated cobalt arsenate mineral that forms as a secondary alteration product on cobalt-rich ores. The mineral is sometimes called cobalt arsenate hydrate. Erythrite color refers to a freshly fractured Schneeberg erythrite crystal cluster: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the matte finish of acicular hydrated cobalt-arsenate crystals. Named for the Greek erythros (red), though the mineral is purple-violet.
