Reposeful Orpiment
Reposeful Orpiment (#7F4504) is a deep orange with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Latin repōnere, to put back — adjectival suffix -ful. An arsenic-sulfide mineral pigment — used since classical times for the yellow-orange of medieval illuminated manuscripts and Persian miniature painting. The color refers to ground orpiment in a Renaissance illuminator's shell: a saturated, slightly cool yellow-orange with the resinous shine of crystalline arsenic compound.
