Eclipsed Beaujolais (#7A0A1F) is a deep red with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (349°, 85%, 26%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Greek ékleipsis, abandonment — past-participle of eclipse. As a color modifier, eclipsed implies the deep occulting darkness of a celestial-body-blocked light-source, where umbral-and-penumbral shadows fall on the hue. Sits at the deep-and-cool end of the grid, parallel to occluded with astronomical connotation.
The French wine region just south of Burgundy — and the Gamay-based reds of Beaujolais Nouveau. The color refers to a fresh Beaujolais Nouveau in a glass: a saturated, slightly cool red with the optical brightness of low-tannin young wine. Lighter than Burgundy, brighter than Chianti.
