Mapped Paraiba
Mapped Paraiba (#78E1FA) is a soft cyan with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Quiet and dependable, a fit for product UI and data visualization. Its HSL profile (192°, 93%, 73%) places it in the highly saturated band at a light lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Latin mappa, cloth / napkin — past-participle of map. As a color modifier, mapped implies a clear-and-cartographic-and-surveyed quality, the crisp color of Ordnance-Survey-and-USGS scientific-and-cadastral cartographic-and-topographic mapping-and-projection. Sits at the crisp-and-mapped end of the grid, parallel to plotted and surveyed in usage.
The intensely-blue copper-bearing variety of tourmaline — discovered in 1989 in the Brazilian state of Paraíba. Paraiba tourmaline is one of the most expensive gem materials by weight. The color refers to a faceted Paraiba tourmaline: a saturated, slightly cool electric blue-green with the gem's signature internal fire.
