Mellowed Cordierite
Mellowed Cordierite (#777791) is a true blue with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Old English mealu, meal / soft — past-participle of mellow. As a color modifier, mellowed implies a hushed-and-softened-and-deepened quality where the hue carries the visual register of Burgundy-and-Bordeaux multi-decade fully-mellowed-and-deepened wine-cellar maturation finished-state. Sits at the hushed-and-aged end of the grid, parallel to aged and seasoned in usage.

The Vikings reportedly used thin slices as polarizing filters to locate the sun through cloud (sólarsteinn).
