Smouldered Toucan
Smouldered Toucan (#761E05) is a deep red with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. From Old English smolderian, to burn slowly — past-participle of smoulder. As a color modifier, smouldered implies the deep glowing-dark quality of fire-warmed embers, where the underlying hue retains warmth even at low lightness. Sits at the deep-and-warm end of the grid, somewhere between charred and burnt.
The family Ramphastidae — tropical American birds with oversized colorful beaks. Toucan refers specifically to the keel-billed toucan (Ramphastos sulfuratus) whose beak is colored in green, yellow, orange, and red. The color refers to the orange section of a toucan's beak: a saturated, slightly red orange with the matte finish of keratin. Warmer than oriole.
