Italian bastionato, fortified-with-bastions — past-participle of bastion, derived from bastia (fortified-tower). Chinese 紫, purple — the imperial court color of the Tang and Song dynasties, derived from Lithospermum erythrorhizon (gromwell) and overdyed with Polygonum tinctorium.
