Spangled Niger
Spangled Niger (#73AFFE) is a soft azure with a cool character. It leans cool, sitting on the blue, green, and violet side of the wheel. Middle Dutch spange, clasp / metal-disc — past-participle of spangle. As a color modifier, spangled implies a saturated-and-multi-point-reflective quality, the bright color of American-flag-stars and sequined-fabric metallic-disc-and-jewel-decoration. Sits at the bright-and-reflective end of the grid, parallel to glittering and sequined in usage.
The third-longest river in Africa — flowing through Guinea, Mali, Niger, Benin, and Nigeria to the Gulf of Guinea. Niger color refers to mid-depth Niger River water at Timbuktu in Mali: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-brown with the optical complexity of West African inland-delta river water.
