Sunken Persimmon
Sunken Persimmon (#731D06) is a deep red with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (13°, 90%, 24%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
The past participle of sink — used as a color modifier since the eighteenth century for surfaces that read as receded or enclosed. Sunken implies a slightly cool darkness with the optical quality of a recessed plane: the sunken eye sockets of a sculpture, the depressed channels of an Anglo-Saxon enamel. Sits in the deep-and-cool corner, closer to shadowed than to brooding.
Diospyros kaki, the East Asian persimmon — a fruit eaten ripe from the tree in Japan since at least the eighth century, where its color is named kaki-iro. The fall color of the unblemished astringent fruit: a dense, slightly red orange with the velvet finish of a wax-skinned Hachiya. Closer to maple syrup than to citrus, with the patient warmth of a fruit that takes a hard frost to sweeten.
