Forthright Starlight

#714eef
Notes

Forthright Starlight (#714EEF) is a true indigo with a vibrant character. It holds its own as a focal accent, carrying visual weight without tipping into neon territory. Its HSL profile (253°, 83%, 62%) places it in the highly saturated band at a mid lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary yellow. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.

Etymology

Forthright
adjective

Old English forð-riht, straight ahead, direct. Used as a color modifier in Anglo-Saxon-revival contexts for hues that read as honest and unguarded. Forthright red, forthright blue: the saturation is full, the hue is presented without ornamentation or qualification. Sits in the bold-bucket center alongside frank and direct.

Starlight
noun

The integrated visible spectrum of the Milky Way's faint stars — about 500 times dimmer than full moonlight and richly blue-violet at high galactic-latitude viewing angles where dust extinction is minimized. Starlight color refers to the deep-blue night-sky background between the brightest stars on a moonless dark-site night: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-violet with the optical complexity of integrated multi-stellar Rayleigh-scattered atmospheric light.

This color is chromatic enough that authoring it as P3 native (instead of clamping to sRGB) gives a perceptibly more saturated render on wide-gamut displays — modern Macs, iPhones, iPads, and most recent OLED laptops.
