Cellared Persimmon
Cellared Persimmon (#6E2303) is a deep orange with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (18°, 95%, 22%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary cyan. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Latin cellārium, storehouse — past-participle of cellar. As a color modifier, cellared implies the deep-and-cool-and-architectural quality of Bordeaux-and-Burgundy wine-cellar underground stone-and-oak storage-chamber, with the patina of multi-decade barrel-aging-and-bottle-laying. Sits at the deep-and-architectural end of the grid, parallel to crypted with viticulture register.
Diospyros kaki, the East Asian persimmon — a fruit eaten ripe from the tree in Japan since at least the eighth century, where its color is named kaki-iro. The fall color of the unblemished astringent fruit: a dense, slightly red orange with the velvet finish of a wax-skinned Hachiya. Closer to maple syrup than to citrus, with the patient warmth of a fruit that takes a hard frost to sweeten.
