Sable Zǐ
Sable Zǐ (#6E006F) is a deep violet with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (299°, 100%, 22%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary green. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.
Etymology
Martes zibellina, the Eurasian sable — a small mustelid of Siberian taiga whose deep brown-black fur was the most prized mammalian pelt of the Russian and Chinese imperial courts. The color refers to a fresh sable pelt: a deep, slightly warm near-black with the satin finish of densely packed guard hairs. Warmer than ink, glossier than coal, with the courtly weight of a fur reserved for tsars and emperors.
Chinese 紫, purple — the imperial court color of the Tang and Song dynasties, derived from Lithospermum erythrorhizon (gromwell) and overdyed with Polygonum tinctorium. Zǐ color refers to a Tang-dynasty imperial robe field: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the silk luster of multi-bath gromwell-root-and-indigo overdye on tussah silk. Cooler than zǐsè (formal deep purple).
