Erebine Crimson (#6A0F0B) is a deep red with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Greek Erebine, of Erebus — adjectival form of Erebus, the primordial deity of darkness in Hesiod's Theogony. As a color modifier, erebine implies the deepest primordial-darkness of pre-cosmic chaos, with literary-cosmological register. Sits at the deepest-and-coolest end of the grid, parallel to Stygian and Cimmerian.
From the Old Spanish cremesin, itself from the Arabic qirmiz — the kermes scale insect, dried and ground into a brilliant carmine dye prized in the medieval Mediterranean. For centuries the most expensive red on a draper's shelf, reserved for cardinals, kings, and the cloth that gave English the word crimson. Cooler than scarlet, deeper than rose; the color of pomegranate seeds and a serious occasion.
