Infernal Kohbai
Infernal Kohbai (#680152) is a deep magenta with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Latin infernālis, of the lower realms — derived from infernus (underworld). As a color modifier, infernal implies the deep-glowing-furnace-darkness of Dante-Inferno-and-Bosch-tryptich infernal imagery, with the warm undertone of fire-light against shadow. Sits at the deep-and-warm end of the grid, parallel to hellish and warmer than Hadean.
Japanese 紅梅, red plum-blossom (Prunus mume var. kohbai) — the deep-pink-flowered cultivar of Japanese plum, a traditional New Year color in Heian-period kasane no irome layered silks.
