Vaulted Marigold
Vaulted Marigold (#662D0C) is a deep orange with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (22°, 79%, 22%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Old French voulte, vault via Latin volūta (rolled) — past-participle of vault. As a color modifier, vaulted implies the deep-and-architectural-and-Gothic quality of Salisbury-Cathedral-and-Chartres-Cathedral nave-vault overhead-stone-arched ceiling. Sits at the deep-and-architectural end of the grid, parallel to cavernous with cathedral-vault register.
Tagetes, the Mexican marigold central to the Día de los Muertos altars where the orange flowers guide the dead home. The English name once referred to the European Calendula officinalis before the Aztec import took the word over. The color is a saturated, almost fluorescent orange-yellow — the carotenoid pigments give marigolds the same chemistry as egg yolks, autumn leaves, and the feathers of flamingos.
