Earnest Macaw

#5d820e
Notes

Earnest Macaw (#5D820E) is a deep lime with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (79°, 81%, 28%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. For a confident two-color system, pair it with its complementary indigo. For something softer, pull in its analogous neighbors on either side of the wheel.

Etymology

Earnest
adjective

Old English eornost, seriousness, zeal. Used as a color modifier since the nineteenth century for hues that read as committed but unshowy — the working blues of denim, the deep greens of Quaker meetinghouses. Sits in the bold-and-quiet corner of the grid, slightly less luminous than resolute and slightly less institutional than imperial.

Macaw
noun

The genus Ara — large neotropical parrots — particularly A. militaris (military macaw) whose plumage is dominated by saturated green. The color refers to a military macaw's wing covers: a saturated, slightly cool deep green with the matte finish of structural-and-pigment feather color. Cooler than parakeet.

Moderately saturated colors gain a small bump in P3 — the difference is usually visible side-by-side on wide-gamut hardware but won't change the character of the color.
