Inky Akebia
Inky Akebia (#5A117F) is a deep violet with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Etymology
An adjectival form of ink, used as a color modifier since the eighteenth century to suggest the deep saturated black of fresh writing ink seen against white paper. Less about literal blackness than about the optical density of a fluid that absorbs light through its full thickness. Used at the dark end of any saturated hue: an inky blue is a deep saturated blue with the optical depth of pigment in solution.
Asian chocolate vine (Akebia quinata) — a deciduous twining vine native to Japan, China, and Korea, with deep-violet five-petaled flowers that release a chocolate-like fragrance in late spring. Akebia color refers to a fully bloomed Akebia quinata female flower: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the velvet finish of fused-petaled cup-flower. The Japanese name akebi refers to the pendulous fruit pods.
