Hadean Murex
Hadean Murex (#590B65) is a deep violet with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (292°, 80%, 22%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Greek Hadean, of Hades — adjectival form of Hades. As a color modifier, hadean implies the deep cool-darkness of the classical-Greek underworld realms, with literary-poetic register. Sits at the deep-and-cool end of the grid, parallel to plutonian and Stygian in classical-mythological register.
Bolinus brandaris and Hexaplex trunculus — the two principal Mediterranean sea-snail genera whose hypobranchial-gland secretion was processed into Tyrian purple dye for two-and-a-half millennia. Murex color refers to a freshly Murex-dye-bath-emerged Phoenician trade-textile: a saturated, slightly cool deep violet with the matte finish of multi-bath shellfish-dye on hand-loomed Levantine wool. The Latin murex gives English murexide, a synthetic violet-red dye.
