Obsidian Naivasha (#570339) is a deep magenta with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Etymology
Volcanic glass — molten rhyolite cooled too quickly to crystallize. Mined since the Stone Age for blade-edges (sharper than surgical steel) and ground into mirrors by the Aztec priesthood for divination. The color refers to a polished obsidian flake from Mount Hekla or Glass Buttes, Oregon: a deep, slightly blue-shifted black with the high-gloss conchoidal fracture of natural glass. Cooler than onyx, glossier than coal.
Kenyan Rift Valley freshwater lake — and the seasonal nesting site of Phoenicopterus ruber lesser-flamingo flocks whose massed pink-magenta plumage colors the lake-edge mudflats during the summer breeding season. Naivasha color refers to a Lake Naivasha mudflat with massed Phoenicopterus ruber in late-afternoon light: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the optical complexity of carotenoid-pigmented feather mass against muddy water.
