Eclipsed Borscht
Eclipsed Borscht (#500143) is a deep magenta with a jewel character. It carries the deep, saturated richness of a gemstone. Authoritative and slightly formal, it works well for type and heavy UI elements. Its HSL profile (310°, 98%, 16%) places it in the highly saturated band at a dark lightness. Best used in small doses, like logos, CTAs, focus rings, or highlight text, where its saturation becomes a feature rather than noise. Etymology
Greek ékleipsis, abandonment — past-participle of eclipse. As a color modifier, eclipsed implies the deep occulting darkness of a celestial-body-blocked light-source, where umbral-and-penumbral shadows fall on the hue. Sits at the deep-and-cool end of the grid, parallel to occluded with astronomical connotation.
Eastern European beet-soup — particularly the Ukrainian and Polish bórshch and Russian borshch, made from Beta vulgaris roots and cabbage in a deep-magenta broth. Borscht color refers to a freshly served bowl of Ukrainian bórshch with a sour-cream swirl: a saturated, slightly cool deep magenta with the matte finish of betalain-pigmented beet broth. Slightly warmer than Belarusian barszcz.
