Kindled Camas
Kindled Camas (#4D8CFA) is a true azure with a neon character. It sits at the high-saturation edge of its family. Use it sparingly, as signage, accent, or highlight against darker surfaces. Old Norse kynda, to set on fire — past-participle of kindle. As a color modifier, kindled implies a saturated-and-newly-lit quality, the bright color of autumn-bonfire-and-stove-fire initial-combustion emission. Sits at the bright-and-warm end of the grid, parallel to ignited and aflame in usage.
The genus Camassia — camas lily, North American native bulbs whose deep-blue flower spikes were a staple food source for Pacific Northwest Indigenous peoples (the bulbs are cooked in pit ovens). The color refers to a C. quamash meadow at peak bloom: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue with the satin finish of six-petaled lily-form flower.
