Greek ékleipsis, abandonment — past-participle of eclipse. The cultivated genus Verbena — particularly Verbena × hybrida, the trailing bedding plant in the Verbenaceae family with violet-and-magenta flat-topped cymes used in Mediterranean container gardens. Verbena color refers to a fully bloomed Verbena bonariensis cyme: a saturated, slightly cool deep blue-violet with the velvet finish of dense small four-petaled flowers. Slightly cooler than Vervain and warmer than Liatris.
